Recent concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19) has generated a lot of public attention and concern.  Intricate’s management has been carefully monitoring these developments and is mindful of the potential risks to our team and our business.

We note that the risk of infection still remains low in Alberta but encourage all team members to take basic precautions.  These precautions include:

  • Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick (this may include avoiding shaking hands).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

While we maintain business as usual, Intricate will also be focused on taking precautionary measures and ramping up our efforts to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus while ensuring continuity of our operations.

To our valued clients: As concerns around COVID-19 increase here in Alberta, we wanted to reassure our clients, employees and future customers that we still operating “business as usual” yet proactively modifying our policies and procedures to ensure we’re doing our part for the health and safety of the communities we’re in.

Keep your heads up, we are all in this together.

About coronavirus

  • Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. They can cause illnesses ranging from a mild cold to a severe pneumonia.
  • Novel coronaviruses are new strains of the virus that have not been previously identified in humans. COVID-19 is a novel virus that has not been previously identified.
  • The disease caused by this strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) does not appear to be as severe as other coronaviruses, such as SARS. Many patients have reported only mild symptoms.
  • There is person-to-person spread.

Symptoms

Symptoms for COVID-19 are similar to those for influenza or other respiratory illnesses. The most common symptoms include:

  • fever
  • cough
  • extreme tiredness

Most people (about 80%) recover from this disease without needing special treatment.

However, it can cause serious illness. Those who are older, and those with other medical problems are more likely to develop serious illness, which can include:

  • difficulty breathing
  • pneumonia

There is a risk of death in severe cases.

While we are still learning about how COVID-19 affects people, older persons and persons with pre-existing medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease, cancer or diabetes) appear to develop serious illness more often than others.

Call Health Link 811 at the first sign of symptoms. Call from home before going to a health care facility, unless severely ill.

Anyone who is ill with influenza-like symptoms such as fever or cough is recommended to stay home for 14 days after their illness has started.
