Unit Converter – Conversion of Measurement in Oil and Gas
No matter how many years we have had the metric system in place in Canada, we are always going to be dealing with imperial units. One question that has been asked time and time again, (and have seen differing opinions on what the actual conversion is), is when working with flow rates of natural gas; “What is that in millions?”

I provide a flow rate in ‘decs’ (1000’s of m3) and the operator or their engineer ultimately asks, ‘what is that in millions?’. Usually followed by ‘are you sure?’ and sometimes ‘that can’t be right…’ and then, ‘check again’. That’s fine, I don’t mind checking again, I usually already did before I reported the numbers. Sometimes the numbers aren’t what we expected.
